Dr. Maklarin bin Lakim is the Director of Sabah Parks, Malaysia, with more than 30 years of professional experience in biodiversity conservation, protected area management, wildlife ecology, and environmental research. He holds a PhD in Wildlife Ecology from University Malaysia Sabah and has extensive expertise in managing terrestrial and marine protected areas across Sabah. Throughout his career, Dr. Maklarin has contributed to regional and international conservation initiatives, including the Coral Triangle Initiative (CTI), climate change adaptation programs, ecotourism development, and biodiversity monitoring. He has participated in numerous international conferences, workshops, and scientific collaborations, and has published widely on biodiversity, wildlife conservation, ecosystem management, and community engagement. His leadership in Sabah Parks supports sustainable management of natural resources, strengthening regional capacity building, and promoting science-based conservation approaches aligned with the CTI-CFF Regional Plan of Action.
