Course Outline

Unit 1: Fundamental Coral Biology
Through this learning topic, you are expected to: 1. Be informed of coral reef history. 2. Understand the basic biology and morphology of coral animals. 3. Be able to identify three coral reef systems. 4. Understand the principles of reef resilience and how each one relates to reef management.
Unit 2: Restoration Strategy and Approaches
Through this learning topic, you are expected to: 1. Understand key approaches to coral reef restoration and how the consideration and decision-making in the planning process are tied to the success of a restoration program. 2. Identify a suitable method for a selected site. 3. Understand the components in a Marine Protected Area and how they relate to restoration. 4. Understand the importance of social and government aspects in a coral reef restoration program.
Unit 3: Pre and Post Restoration Activity
Through this learning topic, you are expected to: 1. Understand the considerations taken in determining a site. 2. Be informed about the key aspects and characteristics of the MARRS method. 3. Know the stages of planning restoration activities, from pre to post restoration. 4. Understand the importance of pre and post restoration activities.
